Fisheye is interesting here, maybe not the best location for this effect, but the location is beautiful and the shot is different.

Yes you are right. I also tried to make a panorama with a normal (rectilinear) lens. Unfortunately the stitching on the computer failed. So the fisheye photo was the only I still had. And I learned additional, the next time when taking a photo from a lake with fisheye, to make sure that the horizon exactly is in the center- point of the picture, because fisheye (circular) lenses turn all straight lines, except those who go through the center.

That's a good point, I think that's what seems to mess up this shot. The mountain is the central line that curves, as opposed to the water, or something lower in the shot. Also try for more closed in areas surrounding the shot to enhance the fisheye effect.

Great capture! I use a Sigma 10-20mm but it doesn't seem to give me that amount of distortion. Nice work.;)

Thank you very much for your comment!
The sigma 10-20 is a linear projection type and has a smaller angle of view.
The Tokina 10-17 is a circular projection type (fishey) and provides a very wide angle of view. It has high distortion, except lines which ecxactly crosses the center of the picture. The distortion is not a fault or failor but a result of the wide angle of this lenses. For understanding, imagine a flat map of the hole earth. You will see the longitudes and latitudes are all distorted except these which are crossing the center e.g. the equator.
As I know Sigma also offers a circular lens.
Tokina also offers a linear lens (Tokina 12-24).
What kind of lens to use, depends on the requirements. Super wide angle or no distortion. Both are not possible. I have both.

Sorry for my englisch. I hope you understand what I tried to explain.

Thank you for the explanation though I do understan the principles, I just hadn't actually realised that my sigma was the linear type of lense. Now of course I will have to get one with circular projection.;)
our English is far better than my Austrian would be.:D

It is a good Idea to have both lenses. By the way - Austrians don´t speak austrian but german :-)
Have a good day!
